Code of Conduct
The Allies
During the event, we will have the following people in the venue acting as the “Code of Conduct Allies”. They are in charge of receiving the information related to breaches in the Code of Conduct, and responsible for conducting the necessary actions. They will be wearing a different coloured lanyard. Main purpose
The JBI2025 Code of Conduct has been created to guarantee a safe and respectful environment to everyone and to have avenues to turn to in case someone believes there has been a breach to the Code of Conduct.
Applicability
The JBI2025 Code of Conduct is applicable not only to the symposium itself but also to the networking activities related to the event.
By participating in the JBI2025 symposium, participants accept the procedures by which the JBI2025 Organising Committee resolves any Code of Conduct incidents.
Application of the Code of Conduct
“JBI2025 Allies” is a group of participants designated by the JBI2025 Organising Committee responsible for enforcing the Code of Conduct and visibly identified from the beginning of the symposium.
If anyone needs to report issues or incidents related to the Code of Conduct to the JBI2025 Allies, there are two confidential ways to do it:
- By writing an email to a dedicated email address that will reach the CoC Allies: coc.jbi2025@cnb.csic.es
- By contacting in-person a member of the JBI2025 Allies or by reaching the organisers of the event during the activities of the symposium.
The JBI2025 Allies and the JBI2025 Organising Committee will take appropriate actions. Any incident of inappropriate behaviour will be taken extremely seriously and will be responded promptly.
JBI2025 values
An aim of the JBI2025 is to provide a safe and respectful environment that allows everyone to feel respected and included, and receive equitable treatment.
As a statement of principle, JBI2025 rejects discrimination and harassment by any means, based on factors such as ethnic or national origin, race, religion, citizenship, language, political or other opinion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, pregnancy, age or socio-economic class.
Moreover, JBI2025 opposes all forms of bullying including threatening, humiliating, coercive or intimidating conduct that causes harm to, interferes with or sabotages scientific activity and careers. Discrimination, harassment and mobbing create a hostile environment that reduces the quality, integrity, and pace of the advancement of science by marginalising individuals and communities. It also damages productivity and career advancement, and prevents the healthy exchange of ideas.
Expected behaviour
All participants in the JBI2025 are expected to show respect and courtesy to others. All interactions should be professional. In order to foster a positive and professional learning environment we encourage the following kind of behaviours:
- Use a welcoming and inclusive language.
- Be respectful of different viewpoints and experiences.
- Foster scientific and technical rigour and curiosity with constructive and facts-based critique.
- Gracefully accept constructive criticism.
- Show courtesy and respect towards other JBI2025 participants.
- Be mindful of your own biases and do not let them get in the way of respectful interaction.
- Speak up if you believe the spirit of this Code of Conduct has not been upheld.
- Adjust the behaviour where it was seen to be short of the requirements indicated in this Code.
Unacceptable behaviour
Unacceptable behaviour by participants at JBI2025 include:
- Written or verbal comments which have the effect of excluding people on the basis of membership of any specific group.
- Violent threats or language directed against another person.
- The display of sexual or violent images.
- Unwelcome sexual attention.
- Sustained disruption of talks, events or communications.
- Insults or put downs.

- Excessive swearing.
- Incitement to violence or self-harm.
